Reasons to attend and to not attend Allegheny College

To Attend

  • “It’s a place where if you don’t feel like something is here for you, it’s an easy place to start something you’re interested in.”
  • “There are plenty of clubs and organizations that no matter what you’re interested in, you’ll be able to find a group of people you’re like. If there isn’t a club you want to join you can easily start your own. You just need signatures from a few people that want to join it.”
  • “The small class sizes allow you to get close to professors. You’re not just a number, teachers know you by name. They also come to your sporting events.” [The average class size is 11]
  • “They will set you up if you want to go to graduate school.”
  • “You can make a lot of connections. It’s good for networking.”

To Not Attend

  • “It’s not the best college when we have a racial or rape crisis. They don’t know how to actually support their student body. It’s not that they haven’t done any type of support, but they haven’t been that supportive for students wanting extra help.” [See Allegheny’s counseling center here. See The Campus article, “Federal Title IX investigation ends after lawsuit,” and article, “Court grants three-year PFA order against student.”]
  • “The location. It’s out of the town a little bit, and once you get down the hill into the town it’s kind of old fashion and outdated. The people down there are much different than the student’s socioeconomic status wise. Some of the people who live in Meadville tend to not take a liking toward students because they’re so different.”
