Reasons to attend and to not attend Case Western Reserve University
To Attend
- “The places around us are good. If you are a medical or dental student, there is the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital here and the college has relationships with them.”
- “There are lots of opportunities here. You’re in the middle of Cleveland and could find anything there.”
- “If you’re not a very social person, it’s a nice place because you can carve out a niche for yourself and make really close friends.”
- “It is a very positive and accepting environment for people of different races, genders, nationalities, and sexualities.”
- “The Sears think[box] is why I really came.”
- “They don’t put a limit on which colleges you’re in. You don’t have to transfer between each for everything. I switched majors at the end of my sophomore year and that was fine. They work with you and truly want everyone to leave with a major they like.”
To Not Attend
- “The social scene is lacking.”
- “There are specific boundaries between freshman and all the other classes. As a freshman, you live on North Side, so you’re only really interacting with freshmen. Even though the upperclassmen live on the North Side, they don’t want to talk to the freshman.”
- “Cleveland isn’t the safest location, but there are lots of safety protocols in place. We had a lockdown this semester for shots fired near campus, and there was immediately a stronger presence of security and police on campus.”
- “The workload can be somewhat suffocating at times.”
